Two soldiers based at Fort Carson have been killed in Iraq, one by an explosion and one by enemy fire.
Army Spec. Phillip C. Edmundson of Wilson, N.C., died Wednesday in Ramadi when an explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat. The 22-year-old was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Carson.
Army Pfc. Louis E. Nieder meier of Largo, Fla., also died Wednesday in Ramadi. The 20- year-old was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.
At least 55 other soldiers from Fort Carson-based units have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003.
