A noise complaint at a Capitol Hill apartment building started curious police on the trail of a cache of items believed to have been stolen in more than 100 residential burglaries.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the burglaries, said Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson.

Already on the lookout for stolen surveillance cameras, officers responded to a noise complaint at an apartment building at 1305 Marion St. They noticed an extension cord running from a common area of the building to a surveillance camera that had been installed in an unprofessional manner.

That led them to an apartment where there were numerous television sets, DVD and CD players, large plants, pieces of art and a fireplace mantel that all seemed out of place.

Brendan Jamiel, 21, was arrested on May 22. His suspected partner, Robert Burzees, 35, was arrested Sunday. Both are being held for investigation of burglary, Jackson said. Jamiel also is being held on suspicion of a felony drug violation.

In all. there were about 200 items in Jamiel’s apartment that police believe were stolen, Jackson said.

Some of the items have been identified as coming from burglaries in the Capitol Hill and Cherry Creek neighborhoods, Jackson said.

Because most people don’t keep track of serial numbers on electronic items such as TVs and computers, and because so many of the items don’t have identifying numbers, it is difficult to match the stolen property to victims, he said.

Burglary victims will be allowed to view the stolen items to see if they can identify anything taken from their homes.

Police will have a property viewing June 18 at Denver police headquarters, 1331 Cherokee St.
