Two former female employees of the Colorado Department of Corrections on Friday filed a federal lawsuit accusing their former employer of sex discrimination.
Margaret Heil and Jacqueline Grant accuse a particular supervisor of demoting them because of their gender.
For 19 years, Heil ran the DOC’s sex-offender treatment and monitoring program, the lawsuit said. In 2003, she was abruptly reassigned and replaced with a less-qualified male employee, the lawsuit said.
Grant, who began working for the department in 1997, was promoted several times until she encountered the same supervisor who had transferred Heil.
Both women, who left under pressure, are seeking back pay and compensatory damages.
