Retirement rites for U.S. flags

The U.S. General Services Administration and West Metro Fire Rescue will host a U.S. flag retirement ceremony at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood on Tuesday, Flag Day.

The ceremony will take place south of Building 40 near Bicentennial Park at 10:30 a.m.

A U.S. code says, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

West Metro Fire has been collecting old, faded and worn American flags for the upcoming ceremony. Residents can drop off flags at the West Metro station. For more information, call 303- 989-4307.
