Hispanic Business magazine’s 21st annual Top 500 list includes six Colorado-based companies, including two in the top 20.
Burt Automotive Network, ranked first in 2004, slipped to second behind the Related Group of Florida, a real estate company in Miami.
The Related Group reported revenues of more than $2 billion, the first company to do so on the Hispanic Business 500.
Burt Automotive, based in Centennial and owned by Lloyd G. Chavez Jr., saw revenues of $1.9 billion in 2004, making it the largest car dealership on the list.
Even though Burt declined in the rankings, revenue was up 18 percent from the previous year.
The list ranks the top Hispanic-owned companies based on revenues in 2004. To be considered, companies “must show at least 51 percent of ownership by Hispanic U.S. citizens and must maintain headquarters in one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C.,” the magazine said.
Mike Shaw Automotive, based in Denver, moved up one spot from last year to 17th, with $285 million in revenues. “I am just excited to be doing business in Colorado,” chief executive Michael J. Shaw said Monday.
On the horizon for Mike Shaw Automotive is a possible Toyota dealership in Castle Rock, Shaw said.
Also on the list from Colorado were Alliance General Contractors in Colorado Springs (107), Gallegos Sanitation Inc. in Fort Collins (425), Systems Research Group in Colorado Springs (462) and Optimum Management Systems LLC in Denver (464).
Alliance General jumped 70 spots from last year’s rankings, with $52 million in revenue.
Optimum Management Systems was the only new Colorado entrant on the list. A technology and consulting firm founded in 1998, OMS is headed by CEO Monica Pleiman and had 2004 revenues of $6.8 million.
