A woman who authorities say was shot by her husband minutes after police investigated a domestic disturbance at their Aurora home has died.

Lorraine Johnson, 48, died Tuesday at the Medical Center of Aurora surrounded by family. She died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to an autopsy completed Wednesday.

Johnson was shot Sunday evening at her Aurora home at 1585 S. Ironton St.

Her husband, Eddie Johnson, 45, was arrested immediately after the shooting. He now could face a charge of first-degree murder, police said.

Police were called to the home about 6:20 p.m. Sunday on a report of a fight. Officers left after talking for about 30 minutes with the couple, who said they could work out their dispute.

Officers were called back to the home on a report of a shooting about 20 minutes later.

Advocates for victims of domestic violence have questioned why more was not done to intervene.

Police said they did not have probable cause to arrest Eddie Johnson on the initial call because they had no evidence a crime had been committed. Interim Police Chief Terry Jones said he will review the department’s response to the initial call.
