Trail volunteers
Colorado State Parks is seeking volunteers to assist in trail work at the Colorado State Forest southeast of Walden. Work days will be Sunday, July 16 and 24, Aug. 20 and 28 and Sept. 10. Participants may phone 970-723-8366 for details. Also, a group of Trout Unlimited workers will continue an improvement project on the trail into Cheesman Canyon on Tuesday. Volunteers should report to the trailhead parking lot off Road 126 approximately 4 miles west of Deckers by 9 a.m., bringing proper work wear and sustenance. Other work days will be July 16 and Sept. 17. For information, call 303-291-1932.
ATV ban
Effective July 1, dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles are prohibited at three state wildlife areas in southeast Colorado: John Martin, Granada and Queens. The regulation also requires that all motorized vehicles must remain on designated roadways at John Martin and Granada. Travis Black, area manager for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, pointed out that SWAs are established for wildlife habitat and for hunting and fishing. “Unfortunately, some people view these properties as places where they can race around on ATVs blazing new trails and tearing up vegetation.”
Wyoming walleye
The Wyoming Walleye Circuit will stage its final tournament of the season July 16-17 at Seminoe Reservoir near Rawlings. Entry deadline is July 9 and the fee for a two-person team is $400. For information, call 307-856-4545 or www.wyomingwalleye.com.
