Fitzgerald repeats at Greeley Classic

Caine Fitzgerald of Murphy Creek successfully defended his Greeley Classic title, shooting a 65 in the morning round at Highland Hills.

Fitzgerald followed his morning round with a 67 at Greeley Country Club for a one-stroke victory over Chris Johnson of Raccoon Creek.

The team portion of the event went to Randal Bregar, Mitch Campos, Craig Law and Brian Mondragon of Elmwood Golf Course.

Campbell Classic baseball starts Thursday

The 18th annual Randy Campbell Memorial Classic opens Thursday, with 16 American Legion or Connie Mack baseball teams competing at high school fields at Heritage, Smoky Hill, Highlands Ranch and Englewood.

Each team will play five games, and the championship game will be held Sunday at Heritage.

All 16 teams are from Colorado.

CU names assistant soccer coach

University of Colorado soccer coach Bill Hempen announced that Alli Hunt, a former Wake Forest defender, will join his staff.

Hunt fills the position of second assistant coach that has been vacant since the end of the 2003 season.

A four-year letterwinner, Hunt played in four NCAA tournaments as an undergraduate. She started 71 of 79 career matches and her career line includes 49 shots, one goal, 13 assists and 15 points.

Colorado kicks off its 10th season of soccer Aug. 26 when the Buffs host Vanderbilt at Prentup Field on CU’s East Campus at 4 p.m.

CSU-Pueblo women’s soccer schedule set

The CSU-Pueblo women’s soccer team announced its 2005 schedule, which begins Aug. 26 with a two-game home series against Montana State-Billings.
