Air Force football coach Fisher DeBerry announced Wednesday that his charitable foundation is expanding to include family grants. The target will be single-parent families in Colorado.
“This is an expansion of our program and really the heart and soul of what I anticipated and wanted the foundation to be,” DeBerry said. “I came from a single-parent home, and I have looked forward to adding the individual family awards to our program.”
In its first year, the Fisher DeBerry Foundation awarded $6,240 in grants to organizations, including The Home Front Cares, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Young Life.
DeBerry and his wife, LuAnn, are interested in providing support for parenting development, mentoring programs, after-school activities and funding for academic scholarships.
Fisher’s Family Awards of up to $500 are for low- and moderate-income families.
DeBerry also announced two foundation fundraisers. The second annual Fisher DeBerry 5-kilometer run and walk is scheduled for Saturday, starting in Memorial Park in Colorado Springs.
A tribute to Fisher DeBerry to celebrate his 25 years of coaching football at Air Force is scheduled for Aug. 16 at Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano in north Colorado Springs.
