Against all odds. That’s what I figured was in store for Jeff Schinker, a local sports videographer who has been working for more than a year on “Denver Live!” It’s to be a 30-minute TV show featuring Denver night life, restaurants, entertainment, hot spots, athletes and health.
Well, I wrote about his pilot and prospects here last month. He was trying to sell the show to local stations – and he landed a six-week contract for six shows with WB2, to start airing Sunday nights at 11:30 on July 31.
“We’re between ‘Will & Grace’ and ‘elimiDATE,”‘ says Schinker, noting it is prime TV real estate.
The pilot stars two fun guys, Rob Michaels and Andrew Reed, and two women who will make your socks go up and down: Mel’s Bar and Grill hostess Margo Crum and Donna Baldwin model Laura Kristi (Bornhoft). The four of them split up adventures – hanging out at Purple Martini, The Church, Hapa Sushi, the Nuggets gym. The Church affair, hosted by party-boy Kevin Larson, was as crazy as a “Girls Gone Wild” episode, but “Denver Live!” is strictly G-rated.
“We’ll be covering people and places making news in Denver on a weekly basis,” says Schinker.
The show is a long shot – but tune in to see how our town gets down.
FORE!
Denver is teeing up for this weekend’s U.S. Women’s Open at Cherry Hills Country Club.
The ranks of volunteers are not your usual candy-stripers. For instance, Nancy Anschutz was manning the registration desk first thing Tuesday morning.
Denver native Jill McGill along with fellow players Carin Koch and Kim Saiki went to Flash Gallery at Belmar on Tuesday night for the Imperial Headwear party – the Denver-based company that puts a lid on it.
McGill is staying at her parents’ house for the tourney – and thinks it’s cute that her mom is ironing her clothes every day.
Sighted at the hat dance: Broncos Mike Leach and Danny Kanell, former Nugget Bill Hanzlik.
Jazzy
Jazz Aspen Snowmass kicks off its 15th year this week with five nights of in-town music, starting with the Ramsey Lewis Trio Wednesday night, closing with Boz Scaggs Sunday night.
But the biggest JAS news this month was the brilliant Sonoma Jazz + festival over Memorial Day Weekend, produced by JAS. Sleepy Sonoma didn’t know what hit it – but discovered that Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Isaac Hayes, Steve Winwood and Scaggs go pretty well with pinot.
