Publishers interested in Plasket’s football book
Though his book has been dropped by Prentice Hall publishing, Bruce Plasket, author of “Buffaloed: Racism, Sexism, Injustice and the Media Frenzy That Created a Scandal That Wasn’t,” still hopes to get the book to stores by the end of the summer.
According to Plasket’s agent Matt Baldwin, at least two publishing houses have expressed interest in reading the manuscript, a tell-all that defends the Colorado football program. Prentice Hall has asked Plasket to return the money given to him in advance. Plasket said Wednesday he still has not received a clear explanation for why the book was dropped.
“It had undergone what they call an in-house libel read,” Plasket said. “And then they gave it to outside counsel, where it went under an excruciatingly detailed libel read and was pronounced fit.”
Plasket said despite Prentice Hall’s late change of heart, he doesn’t believe anything in the book needs to be changed.
“This book has gone through extensive developmental editing, it went through extensive rewriting, it went through extensive copy editing and it went through extensive libel editing,” Plasket said. “You get to a point where you want to tell people what you saw. You have to tell the truth. How do you water that down?”
