One of two men shot Friday afternoon in north Denver died on Saturday.

Denver police identified the victim as 18-year-old Mostaffa Zairee.

The other man, Jahmar Martin, 20, had been admitted to Denver Health Medical Center. His condition was not available Saturday.

The alleged shooter, Kelly Phillips, 25, was in police custody.

Authorities were still trying to determine what brought the three together at a house in the 4300 block of Cook Street where the shootings took place, police spokeswoman Virginia Lopez said.

Denver police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving a report of gunshots fired. They found Martin gripping Phillips, who was struggling to leave the front yard of the home.

Neighbor Estella Greenberg, 29, was walking with her children around the block when she heard the shots go off.

“It was like ‘pop, pop,”‘ she said, ” ‘then, pop, pop.”‘

There was a shooting across the street on Tuesday, said neighbor Margaret Henry, who has lived on Cook Street for eight months. A man was wounded in the face and back in that shooting, she said.

“I’m thinking of looking for another place to live,” Henry said.

“Me, too,” Greenberg said.

Lopez could not say whether the two shootings were related.
