Who: Loretta and Ralph Dotterrer
Where: Maui Ocean Center, Maui
Out and About: If you don’t snorkel or scuba dive, a visit to the Maui Ocean Center assures you won’t miss the colorful reef fish that inhabit Hawaiian waters. A diver conducts regular feeding sessions in one of their larger tanks, which includes sharks and rays. Recent abundant rainfall has made the waterfalls on the north side of the island very active. They are probably best seen by air on one of Maui’s helicopter tours. Maui has active cattle ranches. We waited 45 minutes behind a cattle drive we encountered in the middle of the road. We most enjoyed the colorful birds and flowers that inhabit Maui, like the multi-colored hibiscus. Just beautiful!
Travel Tips: Humpback whales inhabit local waters from November through March. Combine whale-watching with a day trip by boat to one of the neighboring islands like, Molokai or Lanai. Keep your camera at hand for the breath-taking sunsets.
