Who: Kitty Tattersall and David Armlovich
Where: Canopy Tower – Posada Amazonas Lodge, Peru
Out and about: Climbing this 120 foot tower took us well above the tree canopies near our lodge in the Amazon Jungle. We heard howler monkeys in the distance and saw beautifully colored birds fly by including spectacular Macaws. Climbing at dawn, seeing the low clouds in the tree canopies below and the sun rising made this tower particularly memorable.
Travel tip: If visiting Peru and the Amazon is part of your itinerary, be prepared: it’s definitely hot and humid. If you take a motorized canoe to a lodge like we did you’ll be limited to a day pack. Be sure you pack plenty of shirts so that you can change into a dry one after a day of hiking and don’t forget a pair of comfortable sandals to wear after your hike. If visiting Machu Picchu is part of your itinerary and you can hike the Inca Trail from KM 82, do it! It’s an experience you’ll treasure. And lastly, we don’t recommend ordering guinea pig for dinner.
