Who: Michelle Hall-Cartagena and Carlos Cartagena of Parker, Colorado
Where: Overlooking the bay at Zihuatanejo, Mexico
Out and About: With breathtaking views of the bay and the pacific ocean, Zihuatanejo is a very relaxing place with a soothing laid-back atmosphere. Unlike its more famous sister city of Ixtapa just about 5 miles away, Zihua (as the locals call it) provides the tourist with the best local cuisine, more authentically Mexican-ness of the town and cheaper prices for everything from hotels and meals to water sports and entertainment not to mention the priceless tranquility you get from the beaches and scenery. This is an extremely safe place to vacation at.
Travel Tip: Avoid Ixtapa if relaxation and experiencing the local flavor is your thing. Deep sea fishing is great specially around February and march when the whales migrate from the north and use the warmer waters of the pacific as their path, with the dolphins and the sea turtles swimming along, a sight well worth watching.
