Legislators approved $18 million in funding to help with improvements along the South Platte River and provide more storage in Chatfield Reservoir, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette said Thursday.

The funding was included in the Water Resource Development Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday.

“These needed funds will go a long way toward cleaning up the South Platte, restoring wildlife habitat and making the riverfront a better place for Coloradans,” said DeGette, D-Colo.

The city of Denver also will contribute about $6.3 million.
