Who: Left: Martha Jong, Harry Jong, Magdalen Dang, Joe Dang, Theresa Yee and Bill Yee (Martha, Magdalen, and Theresa are sisters).

Where: We were on the Yangtze Star going through the shiplocks at the Three Gorges Dam Project, China

Out and about: This trip was an escorted package tour, which comprised of 17-day Yangtze Special. This tour started in Shanghai. Intermediate cities were Wuhan, Quilin, Xian, and Chongqing. Highlights were the Terra Cotta Warriors, picturesque mountains and gorges, and peculiar Karsts and limestone caves. Finally, the trip culminated in Beijing where we saw the Great Wall of China, Temple of Heaven, and Tian An Men Square. There were 4 days on the cruise. It was marvelous. We had wonderful experience of going through the ship locks in 5 steps. The duration was about 4.5 hours. We also saw the Three Gorges Dam Project. The Dam along with the infrastructures around it was tremendous. Its purposes are flood control, power generation, and improve river navigation. 33% construction is still ongoing. The visitors center, containing a model of the project and showing various features of the site, was very busy. Try to get there early in the morning.

Travel Tips: The tour guides told us that April, May, September, and October are the best months to travel in this part of China. However, a good trip would be to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
