Commerce City – A car trying to pass another vehicle collided head-on with a pickup, killing an infant, a young child and an adult passenger in the car, authorities said.

Colorado State Patrol spokesman Eric Wynn said the Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Dodge Ram collided at about 7 p.m. Wednesday on Colorado 2 near Commerce City.

The State Patrol identified the dead as Barry McDonald, 20, his son, Arion McDonald, 2, and nephew Jason McDonald, 8 months, all of Commerce City.

Wynn said Barry and Jason McDonald died at the scene and Arion died at The Children’s Hospital in Denver. Both children were in child-restraint seats, but the seats were ejected from the vehicle, Wynn said.

He said Carlos Rosario-Cruz, 20, of Thornton was driving the Mitsubishi and William Hall, 62, of Colorado Springs was driving the pickup. Both were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries.

Wynn said the collision is under investigation.
