Out and about: After waiting 12 years to get a private permit to raft the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon, our family did a seventeen day trip with 12 other friends last July/August. We’re standing here on the entrance ledge to the Deer Creek patio area above the falls. One of the many wonderful, magical hikes that await along the river corridor in the Grand Canyon.
Travel tip: Beware the monsoon season in late July/August. We experienced a flash flood in 220-mile canyon just below our camp. And our rented SAT phone came in very handy when we needed it to summon a NPS evacuation.
