Who: Kelly Calabrese, Colorado Springs and Beth Rice, Brighton and Wendy Gerdin, Black Forest, Colorado
Where: At the Empire Pool at Ixtapan de la Sal Hotel and Spa, Ixtapan, Mexico
Out and about: This was the second annual girls trip to the Ixtapan Spa in Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico last November, 2004. This wonderful all inclusive spa is a bargain compared to American spa’s and the people are very friendly! There are no problems at this healthy resort as you can choose between fine dining or a 1200 calorie a day diet at the spa restaurant. The property also has a 18 hole golf course, and are planning many development projects over the next 15 years at the golf side of the resort. We took a side trip to Tenotenago Ruins which is only 30 minutes, and also to Cuernavaca, Mexico, to the 5 star restaurant, Las Mananitas for extraordinary international cuisine. We also saw the oldest cathedral in the America’s while in Cuernavaca.
Travel tip: Located 65 miles southwest of Mexico City International airport, you may also fly into the Toluca, Mexico airport which is only 30 minutes from the spa, but is a smaller airport so the rates are a little higher. The spa offers several different packages that all include your spa treatments including massage, facials, reflexology, and more. Your package also includes yoga, pilates, golf/tennis lessons and aerobic classes. A great place to relax and focus on yourself and/or get fit! More info at www.spamexico.com.
