Unrelenting hot, dry weather across the state means fire bans are spreading.

Today at 3 p.m. Jefferson County is implementing “Stage II” restrictions, which means that all open fires are prohibited, including campfires in a fire ring and tiki torches. Charcoal grilling is prohibited, even at private residences, but gas-fueled or liquid-fueled grills can be used at homes.

Douglas County also extended its fire restrictions today, but is allowing charcoal grills at residences.

Larimer County commissioners have also adopted similar restrictions.

Boulder County has a lower level of restrictions in place, allowing the use of outdoor grills and fires in fire rings. Boulder strongly discourages people from smoking outside of enclosed buildings and vehicles.

Late today, El Paso County instituted a ban similar to Boulder’s, prohibiting open fires but allowing campfires in permanent fire rings, as well as charcoal grilling.
