Getting your player ready...

When you get the ball, run with it.

KCNC-Channel 4 landed the designation of “Official Broncos Station” last season and hasn’t stopped running since.

This year, in addition to carrying 12 regular-season Broncos’ games, the OBS has four locally produced programs, three of which debut Sept. 11:

“The Mike Shanahan Show” – In a switch, the Broncos’ coach will do his show before the game. Co-hosts are Dave Logan and Steve Atkinson. 6:30 p.m. Saturdays, repeated at 9 a.m. Sundays.

“apountdown to Kickoff” – In its ninth season, this show airs at 9:30 a.m. Sundays before the network begins its avalanche of pre-game programming. Vic Lombardi, Gary Miller, Reggie Rivers and Atkinson share scouting reports. Also, “Jake’s Takes” lets QB Jake Plummer tell fans what to look for in that day’s game.

“Broncos All Access” – Atkinson, Lombardi and Miller tell us what happened, using exclusive rights to Shanahan and Plummer for post-game one-on-one interviews.

“Broncos Live!” – Broncos safety John Lynch debuts Sept. 12 with Lombardi and a live audience to review the previous day’s game. 6:30 p.m. Mondays.

Happily, gone is “Broncos Saturday Night,” a night on the town with selected players. It never worked, coming off more like a bad blind date than a bonding experience.

Still, g.m. Walt DeHaven loves the lineup, which boosts all the station’s programming. “If you want Broncos, this is the place to come.”

Talking contract

KMGH-Channel 7 and Steve Gottsegen in negotiation over renewal of the weekend sports anchor’s contract.

Channel 7 g.m. Byron Grandy said, “He’s still here, he’ll be here through the end of August,” when his contract expires. “We’re working on a solution,” said Grandy. Gottsegen has been at the station since 1998.

To the streets

With players like “Father Time,” “Business” and “High Riser” we’re not talking college basketball’s Final Four.

“City Slam” (7 p.m. today, ESPN) is a five-part series bringing together streetball players for dunk and three-point competitions.

Probable highlight: One dunk contestant leaping over a car.

Around the dial

Rockies manager Clint Hurdle talks about The Longest Season at 7:45 a.m. today on “Colorado’s Morning News” on KOA 850-AM. … Lance Armstrong revisits his seventh consecutive victory in the Tour de France on “The Late Show With David Letterman” Monday night. … Troy Aikman, sidekick to Joe Buck, has signed a contract extension through 2011 with Fox Sports to do analysis on NFL games. … Quotable: “There isn’t a single professional sports season now that doesn’t go on at least a month too long.” – James Reston
