The thing about fishing at Cherry Creek Reservoir is you’re never quite sure what you might catch, which is why Aurora resident Tom Torpey wasn’t totally surprised last month while drifting leeches for walleye near the south end of the lake. What Torpey realized right off was whatever tugged his boat around for 10 minutes wasn’t a walleye. The channel catfish he landed and released measured about a yard long. Torpey estimated the weight at between 18 and 20 pounds.
