Pity the cooks at Oskar Blues Grill and Brew in Lyons. Their outstanding work always is overshadowed by the beer that brews behind the kitchen. Despite the fact that “Grill” precedes “Brew” in the name of the venerable eatery and pub, the pizza, burgers, wings and sammies are often eclipsed by Dales Pale Ale, the famous microbrew that comes in a can. Look beyond the brew. The food at Oskar’s is worthy of just as many accolades bestowed on its canned colleague, and the two work together like tunes and an iPod. The New Orleans Po’ Boy and catfish bites will float you down to the Crescent City. Pork ribs drip off the bone. A variety of messy burgers with batter-dipped fries will spice up your palate. Vegetarians may not like the veggie “just kidding” burrito, with chunks of chicken. The Rings of Fire – battered and fried onion rings with super spicy dipping sauce – will have you singing Cash. And don’t miss the Heatseeker, a bacon-and-beef pizza designed by a local firefighter with Oskar’s fiery wing sauce. Just about every bite will have you swigging from your frosty pint glass. So lure a designated driver and fire it up at Oskar’s. The downstairs scene can get sweaty and loud late at night, so come prepared to dance off those ale bellies.
