NORTHGLENN

Residents set for Night Out

Many residents of the city of Northglenn will lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with neighbors and police tonight, as will others across the country, in an effort to fight crime.

The event is part of the 22nd annual National Night Out: America’s Night Out Against Crime, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.

Police and city staff will walk through neighborhoods visiting residents, while community developments host ice-cream socials, block parties and cookouts, said Northglenn city spokeswoman Celeste Flores.

Nationally, more than 10,000 communities and 30 million people are expected to participate this year, according to the National Association of Town Watch’s website.

The night is intended to heighten crime- and drug-prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back, Flores said.
