A serial rapist linked by DNA analysis to at least six assaults in the Denver area since November apparently is still attacking women, according to Aurora police.

The same man may have tried to strike twice again, although his attacks were thwarted both times, said officer Marcus Dudley, spokesman for the Aurora police.

In late July, area authorities warned the public that a single man was responsible for a half-dozen sexual assaults, also suggesting that he could have even more victims.

Aurora police have submitted DNA samples to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation from three other rapes in that city since the first of the year for comparison with the attacks already linked to the man, Dudley said Thursday.

In the two most recent cases, a man matching the description of the serial rapist attempted to get into the homes of potential victims, Dudley said.

On July 30 at 10:50 p.m. in the 3600 block of South Dallas Street, a man tried to force his way into a residence, but the intended victim was able to close the door.

Then on Aug. 3 at 9:20 p.m. in the 9800 block of East Hawaii Place, a man was outside a residence with a victim when she saw her neighbors, screamed and ran away.

The three rapes in which DNA samples have been submitted for comparison occurred Jan. 2 in the 1300 block of South Florence Street, June 2 in the 900 block of South Nile Way and June 20 in the 15000 block of East Louisiana Avenue. The physical description of the suspect in the last case is questionable, Dudley said.

Aurora police also have released a second composite sketch of the suspect, this time wearing a skullcap and glasses.

Of the earlier reported rapes, three were in Denver, two in Aurora and one in Arapahoe County, Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman said at a July 22 news conference.

Whitman had said detectives were investigating other assaults that may be connected to the same attacker, but he declined to say how they were similar.

No new cases have been uncovered by or reported to the Denver police.

“We have’t had any more at all,” said Detective Virginia Lopez. “Nothing that would match his description.”

It was reported in July that the rapist might be driving an older- model blue compact car and had used a knife in at least two assaults.
