DNA analysis confirmed three sexual assaults in Aurora were committed by the serial rapist who has been attacking women in the Denver metro area since November, bringing the number of known victims to nine, police said.
Aurora police submitted the DNA samples to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for comparison to the six attacks that already have been linked to the man.
The three assaults occurred Jan. 2 in the 1300 block of South Florence Street, June 2 in the 900 block of South Nile Way and June 20 in the 15000 block of East Louisiana Drive in Aurora.
Those three sexual assaults occurred in residential areas during the evening.
Aurora police are canvassing neighborhoods with the composite drawing of the attacker.
Investigators say they believe the same man was unsuccessful in attacking two women in Aurora.
On July 30, the man tried to get into a residence in the 3600 block of South Dallas Street, but the woman was able to close the door before he got in.
Another victim was outside her residence in the 9800 block of East Hawaii Place on Aug. 3 with the attacker when she saw her neighbors and managed to scream and run away.
Of the six earlier linked rapes, three were in Denver, two were in Aurora and one was in Arapahoe County, authorities said.
Some of those assaults occurred outside shopping centers.
The rapist may be driving an older-model blue compact car and was using a knife in at least two assaults.
He is described as a muscular black man, weighing about 170 to 200 pounds, 6-feet to 6-feet-3-inches tall, and bald, with a mark or a scar on his nose.
The rapist was seen with and without eyeglasses.
