Robert Rae Hemphill, 50, of Bellvue was identified Friday as the man shot by a Larimer County sheriff’s deputy Thursday.
Hemphill died from a gunshot wound to the neck after two deputies fired their weapons at him off Poudre Canyon Highway near Ted’s Place.
Authorities went to question Hemphill because a person complained he had pointed a shotgun at them.
When deputies arrived to the remote off-road area, Hemphill reportedly fired his shotgun at the officers and the deputies returned fire, killing him.
