The 16-day Colorado State Fair in Pueblo launches this weekend, and one of the annual festival’s hottest draws is the mutton bustin’. For kids 6 and younger and less than 60 pounds, the idea is to hold onto a fistful of wool and ride a wily sheep for more than six seconds. The sight of helmeted kids atop a very bothered but harmless sheep is consummately hilarious. The top 22 buckaroos who pass through daily qualifying rounds get a shot at a $1,000 savings bond in the championship round held on the last day of the Fair. Go for the demolition derby, deep fried funnel cakes, Bronco-orange milk, carnival rides and Eddie Money concert, but stay for the mutton rodeo.
