Who: Devon and Durban Swartz of Breckenridge

Where: Livingstone

Out and about: My mother, sister and I went on a 14-day adventure safari throughout South Africa, Botswana and Zambia. Among the many sights, one highlight was a guided walking tour through a Rhino Sanctuary in Livingstone, Zambia. Sadly, there are only two white rhinos left in all of Zambia because of illegal poaching. They are a source of pride and joy for the country and are thus well protected. In this photo, we had come upon the male and female resting in the shade. The female came over to sniff us, forcing us to quickly duck underneath a large fallen tree for protection. After the female rubbed her horn on the tree for a while, her mate came to find her, and they both walked to a new spot of shade and settled in again. What an experience!

Travel tip: Our tour was arranged through a company called Eco-

africa (ecoafrica.com). This was a hands-on, budget camping tour complete with two guides and extensive animal viewing and sightseeing.
