Dean Clapp and Jim Doidge of Meadow Hills Golf Course in Aurora shot an 8-under par 64 on Wednesday to win the Colorado Golf Association State Four-Ball Championship at Grandote Peaks Golf Course in La Veta.

Clapp and Doidge finished the 36-hole tournament at 128, 10 strokes ahead of Colorado golf Hall of Famer Rick DeWitt and his partner, Henry Bissell, both of West Woods Golf Course in Arvada. DeWitt and Bissell shot 69 in both rounds for a 138 total.

Ted Moore and Scott Guetz of Pinehurst Country Club shot 68 in the final round to move into third place at 139.

In the senior division, Robert Polk and Jim Pierce finished in a tie at 134 with John Olive and Ronald Knapp, both former CGA senior players of the year. Polk and Pierce birdied the fourth playoff hole for the win. CGA senior match play champion Kelly Crone and partner Larry Netherton finished third (136).

Munnelly on watch list

The University of Colorado’s Fran Munnelly was named to the 2005 Hermann Trophy Watch List, the highest individual honor in collegiate soccer.

Munnelly, a Mullen graduate from Arvada, is one of 25 players nominated for the award and the first candidate from CU. She was the Buffaloes’ first All-American and a three-time all-Big 12 Conference pick.

Donaldson Sun Belt pick

Florida International University’s Yaneash Donaldson, a Smoky Hill graduate from Aurora, was selected to the preseason all-Sun Belt Conference soccer team.

Regis’ Lewis nominated

Regis High School’s Butch Lewis (Aurora) was nominated to play in the sixth annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He is one of 400 high school football players nominated for consideration to compete in the game on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Adams State is favored

The Adams State College women’s cross country team, winner of two consecutive NCAA Division II national championships, was picked to win its fourth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title in four years in a preseason coaches poll.

The Grizzlies’ Victoria Martinez was picked as the RMAC preseason runner of the year.
