Q: I moved in with my best friend since third grade in May. We were both
single at the time.
Now I have been dating someone seriously, and she just
blew up at me the other day. She says that she is used to me blowing her
off and she says that now she knows my #1 priority is the guy I’m dating.
What can I do?
Oh, also… We are “Will and Grace.” I’m gay and she’s
straight. Does that have anything to do with it?
Thanks!
SCOTT: Hey Will,
Any time you start a new relationship, friends get put on the back burner for
a time; that’s just how it goes, as I’m sure even “Grace” realizes.
But you’ve been friends with your Grace for a long time, and she’s clearly
sensitive about sharing the attention she gets from you with anyone else,
probably even more so now that you’re domestically combined.
It’s great that you found a new guy in your life. Enjoy him!
But don’t make the mistake of forgeting your roommate. As long as you continue to
include her in your plans, all will be good, my friend.
Boys may come and go but your “Grace” will always be there for you.
