Getting your player ready...

Who: Rainer Hantschel of Denver

Where: Just north of I-70, the Oz Museum in Wamego

Out and about: In the Land of Oz, if you need a break from the I-70 asphalt, one welcome stop is the Oz Museum in Wamego, about two hours west of Kansas City. While there are other Oz-themed stops in the state, this one is handy off I-70 and relatively new. It features mostly a huge, diverse private collection that evolved into the museum. A good gift shop can set you up with future Christmas gifts. One may want to take more than a museum break here: Just east of the museum is a shaded park, big swimming pool and restaurants.

Travel tip: For more interesting diversions, stop by the Kansas Welcome Center at Mile Marker 7 on I-70 near Goodland, just as you enter Kansas from Colorado.
