Colorado Springs – The conservative Christian group Focus on the Family is calling on its followers to ask President Bush to revise new religious tolerance guidelines issued by the Air Force.

“Please contact President Bush and urge him to restore the right to religious expression in the Air Force,” says a posting on Citizen Link, a website operated by Focus on the Family.

The Air Force issued guidelines Monday that discourage public prayer at official functions and urge commanders to be sensitive about personal expressions of religious faith.

The guidelines, which apply to the entire Air Force, were drawn up after allegations that evangelical Christians wield so much influence at the academy in Colorado Springs that religious harassment became pervasive.

Focus on the Family, which says its radio programs alone reach about 220 million people worldwide, posted an article about the guidelines two days later urging readers to contact the White House.
