Three motorcyclists have died and at least one was injured in accidents over the holiday weekend in northern Colorado, police said.

It was the second weekend in a row with multiple deaths in motorcycle accidents. Last Sunday, four motorcycle accidents on state roadways left three dead and several injured.

This weekend’s accidents took place at the same time that thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts are gathered in Loveland for the “Thunder in the Rockies” motorcycle rally.

“Actually, I think we’ve seen comparatively little activity we could attribute directly to the rally,” said Loveland police Lt. Tim Brown. “The area has seen some serious injury accidents and fatalities, but I don’t know they can be attributed to the rally.”

On Saturday afternoon, a passenger on a motorcycle driven by Brian Pattison of Kansas City, Mo., was killed after being struck by a car that ran a red light.

Pattison, 38, and a female passenger were riding a 2005 BMW motorcycle south on U.S. 287 when they were hit by a 1992 Honda Accord at Overland Trail Road, near LaPorte.

The identity of the woman, who was killed, was not released, pending notification of her relatives.

Pattison was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins in serious condition.

Sunil Kumar, 30, of Fort Collins was the driver of the Honda. A passenger, Madhu Kumar, 28, also of Fort Collins, was treated for minor injuries.

Friday evening, a Firestone man was killed when he lost control of his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle while rounding a corner on the Interstate 25 frontage road near Dacono.

Police said 35-year-old Curtis Wyatt was speeding when he crashed.

On Thursday, Barbara Beres, 45, of Denver, died near Fort Collins when a car turned in front of her Harley-Davidson.
