Autopsy results released today confirmed that San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Thomas Herrion died of a heart attack.
Herrion collapsed on Aug. 20 in the visiting locker room at Invesco Field at Mile High after the Broncos hosted the 49ers in a preseason game. Herrion was pronounced dead at St. Anthony’s Central Hospital in Denver 50 minutes after the end of the game.
Dr. Amy Martin of the Denver coroner’s office, who performed the autopsy, said that results showed that Herrion had heart damage in the days before his death. Toxicology results did not show any illegal drugs, Martin said.
Herrion was 23. He was 6 feet, 3 inches tall, 330 pounds.
