Who: Scott Marshall and Connie Canterbury of Lakewood
Where: Earl’s Court subway station
When: Four days after the bombings
Out and about: We wandered the English countryside for a week, enjoying Salisbury, Bath, Bristol, Brighton and too many fascinating sites to list. We arrived in London that most unfortunate day, July 7, 2005. Although we were slightly inconvenienced, we never really felt threatened, and we were impressed by the calm behavior of Londoners. This picture was taken the next Monday, as we bravely ventured into “the tube” to begin our trip back home.
Travel tip: We bought a National Express bus pass, and once we adapted our itinerary to their services, we got around fine – much cheaper than by train, and often less crowded. We only reserved lodging for our first two nights and then again for London; in between, we relied on the 560 oh-so-helpful Tourist Information Centres throughout England.
