Who: Girl Scout Troop 467 from Golden. Back row, from left: Taylor Sander, Alise Cohen, Taylor Sands, Ellen Hanggi, Kristin Hultgren. Front row, from left: Laura Brown, Lisa Berdie, Cara Kulbacki, all of the Genesee area

Where: The top of Hahnenmoos near Adelboden

Out and about: We stayed at Our Chalet, operated by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, just across the valley from Adelboden. The Chalet offers services to access a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year. We went on hikes to a woodcarver’s hut, glaciers, waterfalls and beautiful mountaintops where you can use scooters to go back down! We traveled through the little towns such as Gruyere (great chocolate factory!) and also some of the larger cities such as Fribourg, Bern and Geneva.

Travel tip: Make sure that you visit the little towns as well as the cities. Sometimes it’s peaceful to just see the low-populated towns that keep the cultural traditions alive from many years ago. Pack light: You are either walking or taking the trains to get to the backcountry and to the different cities. The Chalet offers room and board for families, large groups (up to 120 people), children and adults. You can learn more about the Chalet and their great hospitality by contacting ourchalet.ch.
