Red Hook ESB

Red Hook is a macrobrewery in a micro world.

Founded in Seattle, a new-brew hotbed, in 1981, Red Hook has been one of the success stories of the revolution.

Red Hook ESB is clad in an interesting 12-ounce bottle – a label split in the middle to reveal an embossed leaf pattern – but the beer is still one of the brewery’s most popular.

An old British favorite, ESB is popular among American brewers for its full flavors and drinkability. A bright copper color, this ESB gives less flavor – malt or hops – than many of its brethren but it is still worthy and, at 5.8 percent alcohol (by volume), a beer to be reckoned with.

Red Hook now has three breweries – Seattle; Woodinville,Wash.; and Portsmouth, N.H. The last celebrated its ninth anniversary last Saturday with a concert by Boulder’s Big Head Todd & the

Monsters.

Red Hook’s brews are available nationwide.
