Nielsen nets PGA Section Championship
Heikke Nielsen, of Cherry Hills Country Club, rode a 7-under-par first round to lead the rest of the way to win the Colorado PGA Section Championship on Wednesday at Riverdale Dunes Golf Club in Brighton.
Nielsen’s final-round 70 put him at 202 in the three-round tournament and netted him the first-place share of the $33,425 purse. The 2003 Colorado PGA player of the year shot a 64 in the first round, tying him for lowest single-round score of the tournament.
Matt Schalk of Lake Valley shot a final-round 69, tying him for the low round of the day and putting him in second, three shots back. Mike Zaremba of Walking Stick finished third at 206. Mike Northern of Valley Hi finished fourth at 209.
Mahler nets another game-winner
Fort Lewis’ Kate Mahler scored her third game-winning goal of the season as the Skyhawks downed Mesa State 1-0 at Dirk’s Field in Durango.
Mahler’s goal in the 84th minute, scored on a breakway on an assist by Kelly Smith, was her sixth of the season. Fort Lewis extended its RMAC record to 3-0-0 and is 6-0-1 overall. Mesa State dropped to 2-1-0, 3-4-0.
FSN to air weekly prep football show
Fox Sports Rocky Mountain announced it is adding a weekly high school football show. The first “Football Colorado” will air Sunday at 2 p.m.
