Boulderites Travis Brown and Gretchen Reeves won national titles in the men’s and women’s marathons Thursday at the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships in Mammoth, Calif.
Brown held off Jay Henry of Avon to win the 66-mile race in 4 hours, 18 minutes. Nat Ross of Vail finished fifth. Reeves completed the women’s course in 4:56, 14 minutes ahead of the second-place finisher. Jeff Wardell of Boulder claimed the title in the men’s 30-39 division, and Mike Hogan of Louisville won the men’s 40-49 division.
Rapids acquire midfielder Boucicaut
The Rapids sent a fourth-round supplemental-draft pick to the Chicago Fire for Alexandre Boucicaut, a midfielder from Haiti. Boucicaut will take the developmental roster spot that opened when the Rapids waived midfielder Marcus Sagastume.
Shooting guard Platt picks Wyoming
Shooting guard Eric Platt of Kelly Walsh High School in Casper will play basketball for Wyoming. Last year, Platt averaged 20.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and four assists during the regular season as a junior. He said he chose the Cowboys over Colorado State, San Jose State, San Diego State, Stanford and Gonzaga.
Nuggets becoming hot ticket
The Nuggets sold 220 10-game ticket packages in the first week of September, the most sold in that span since 1994, the team said. The season-ticket base is approaching 9,000 and is expected reach 10,000 by the start of the season – also the highest since 1994.
