Sierra Nevada Summerfest

Summertime slowly slips away, but there are still a few glorious days that remind us of what once was – yellow corn, melons, a second helping of raspberries and light, refreshing beers among them.

Summertime beers will soon disappear off retailers’ shelves, but a not-to-be-missed reminder of hotter days is Sierra Nevada Summerfest.

A light, smooth lager in the pilsener style, Summerfest is miles from the northern California craft brewer’s usual menu of highly hopped ales, but it is just as well made.

Founded in 1979, Sierra Nevada is one of the leading lights of the microbrew industry, noted especially for its flagship Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, a land mine of hoppiness.

This is a wonderful transition beer for those moving from mass-produced lagers to one with flavor and balance. It’s like one last sip of summer.
