For those of us who spend a good amount of time traversing Colorado, David Gruber has penned our book. The Denver writer has eaten in 900 restaurants in every corner of Colorado and documented his gastronomical adventures with a guidebook of 90 restaurants in 56 of the state’s smaller towns. We are pretty sure he’s the only diner to have reviewed eateries like Rollin Rich’s Steak House in Florence or the Kennebec Café in Hesperus. Gruber seemed intent on nibbling off the beaten track as he researched this book, discovering locally embraced gems that are often overshadowed by more well-placed eateries. And Gruber went beyond the standard history, ambiance and what’s-best review by providing recipes for top dishes at each restaurant. As one reviewer wrote: Keep one copy in the car and another in the kitchen. Both will be dog-eared in no time.
