Young people try out to be chosen for MTV’s much-talked-about reality series. Producers are looking for clear skin, an absence of obtrusive body hair, multi-ethnic backgrounds, promiscuity and a pronounced lack of judgment in social situations. MTV
6 p.m. “Gangsta Girls”
Examining the phenomenon of girl gangs. They are much like the male variety but their gang colors are better coordinated. A&E Network
7 p.m. “According to Jim”
Jim takes Kyle out of kindergarten on his first day so they can go to a Cubs game. This would be a violation of truancy regulations anywhere outside Chicago. ABC
7 p.m. “Gilmore Girls”
Rory completes her community service on a road crew, complaining that she’s a “Spring” and the orange jumpsuit is not in her color palette. WB
7 p.m. “Congo”
A team of high-tech scientists and treasure hunters enter a lost city in Africa in search of diamonds but are fought back by super-intelligent killer gorillas guarding an ancient lost city. The super-intelligent killer gorillas are hostile and violent. They must have seen the script. (1995) USA Network
8 p.m. “My Name is Earl”
Earl is a petty thief who changes his ways and wants to make retribution for his earlier misdeeds. You usually don’t see this from a criminal unless they’re up for re-election. NBC
8 p.m. “RU the Girl”
The field has been narrowed to two, only one of which will be able to join the group on their accelerated slide into musical obscurity. UPN
