Hear antiques’ values and hidden stories from local appraisers at the antique appraisal fair at the Aurora History Museum from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

A $5 donation per appraised item is requested, and there is a limit of five items a person. Only verbal appraisals will be made. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended. Call 303-739-6705 for more information or to preregister.

Meeting to detail new school, road

A community meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Bear Creek K-8 School, 3125 S. Kipling St. in Lakewood, will provide information on construction of a new school and traffic roundabout.

Members of the school staff and the Lakewood planning and traffic engineering department will be on hand to answer questions.

The new $19.8 million two-story Jefferson County K-8 school is scheduled to open in August 2007 across from Bear Creek High School’s sports fields on Dartmouth Place, which will be rerouted. The old school will be demolished after the new one opens.

Low-cost spay/neuter clinic set

Cat owners will be able to get their pets spayed or neutered at a low-cost clinic being offered Wednesday through Oct. 1 at East 14th Avenue and Vaughn Street.

The Denver Dumb Friends League, the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society and the Animal Assistance Foundation are sponsors of the mobile clinic. Cost is $10. Appointments are necessary. For an appointment, call 303-751-5772, ext. 7298.

Rare-dog show returning Oct. 8

A national show for Lundehunds, among the world’s rarest dogs, is returning to Aurora for the second straight year. The Norwegian Lundehund National Specialty Show will be 8:50 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at Expo Park, 10955 E. Exposition Ave.

Lundehunds are typically up to 15 inches tall and have a sixth toe that enables them to climb steep inclines. There are only about 1,200 in the country. Nearly 30 of them will compete for best of show.

The National Canine Association’s All-Breed Dog Show will follow, running from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 9.

Also, a black Arabian horse that inspired James Needham’s illustrations for the book “Black Beauty” will make an appearance. And Kevin Fitzgerald and LaDawn Hills of TV’s “Emergency Vets” will be on hand.
