Getting your player ready...

Q: Why don’t other players play through their injuries like Champ Bailey did last Sunday against San Diego? He truly earned my respect.

Pat Underberg

Yankton, S.D.

A: Champ Bailey is a special player. What he did in the San Diego game needs to go down in team lore. He was supposed to be out for two games but showed up to practice Thursday, then went out and dominated Sunday. His 25-yard interception return on the first play of the third quarter gave Denver the will to win. Defensive end Trevor Pryce said Bailey was the reason Denver won, and he’s right. It was a tremendous accomplishment.

Q: After watching the Broncos lose games to big teams, I get sick when I see what Brian Griese is doing for Tampa Bay. What are the chances of bringing him back?

Angela Braman

Omaha

A: First of all, the Buccaneers are happy with him, and I believe the Broncos are happy without him. I don’t see that one happening again.

Q: I have been very impressed with linebacker D.J. Williams. Is it possible he is the Broncos’ best player on defense in only his second NFL season?

Jeremy Gordon

Pittsburgh

A: He’s an excellent player who is getting better. He’s the leader of the young influx and fits in well with the veterans. As for the best defensive Bronco, I still go with Bailey.

Q: Here’s one for the conspiracy theorists. Former Broncos quarterback Matt Mauck played for coach Nick Saban at LSU. Matt is a very bright young man and was passed over this year by the Broncos. Is it possible Matt could have passed any information to Saban, who’s now coaching the Dolphins, regarding the Broncos? Could such information have been used to benefit the Dolphins’ game plan for the Broncos in the Sept. 11 opener?

Keith Churilla

Salem, Ore.

A: I don’t think so. Keep working on that script though, Keith. Good stuff. Mauck probably wasn’t too thrilled with Saban after he didn’t claim him off the waiver wire. Mauck is currently on the Titans’ practice squad. Now, if the Broncos were to play Tennessee this season, I could see Mauck helping coach Jeff Fisher’s cause. But that’s as far as this tale goes.

Q: Is wide receiver David Terrell still with the Broncos, and if so, did he get on the field at all last Sunday?

Jim Meyer

Escondido, Calif.

A: It was his first game as a Bronco and he was inactive. Expect him to be on the in- active list for the next month or so as he learns the system.
