The Regional Transportation District has announced a series of public meetings in October to discuss a fare increase proposed for January 2006. RTD said higher fuel prices are responsible.

A penny-a-gallon increase in gas costs RTD $100,000, said Cal Marsella, general manager.

“We are $11 million over budget on fuel this year,” Marsella said. “It’s that bad.”

Those who are unable to attend one of the public hearings may e-mail comments to farecomments@RTD-Denver.com, or fax them to 303.299.2008.

Final approval could be granted at an RTD Board of Directors meeting in November.

For more details on these proposed changes in the fare structure, log on to www.RTD-Denver.com, or you can look for the Proposed Changes in Fare Structure brochure on buses, light rail and at RTD transit stations the last week in September.
