CIVIC CUT-UPS
“Please welcome the Martin and Lewis of civic government.” – Jim Benemann, KCNC-Channel 4 anchor, introducing Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper to 1,200 attendees at the A-List 2005 luncheon in Aurora last week. Benemann didn’t say who was who.
HIGH TIME TO BLOOM
“It’s great that they’re finally doing it. They need to go ahead and get it done. I don’t want to wait another five years.” – Callie Oliver, who has lived in Park Hill since 1962, regarding redevelopment of Dahlia Square shopping center. Demolition on the site began last week.
A LOT OF TIME TO THINK
“I agree it is a lot of time for a white-collar defendant. But if you were to take $1 million from someone, how much time would that be worth? Four years? Multiply that by 25 victims, and you get 100 years.” – Joe Morales, chief Denver deputy district attorney, on the 100-year prison term given to former Cherry Creek financial adviser Will Hoover. Hoover is appealing the 2004 sentence.
