Two Australian men, dubbed the “Dumb and Dumber” bank robbers, were sentenced Friday to federal prison terms after they robbed a Vail bank and tried to leave the country with the cash. Luke Carroll, 19, was sentenced to five years in prison and Anthony Prince, 20, a dual citizen of Australia and New Zealand, got a 4 1/2-year term.
Both men, who came to the United States from Australia last fall to work in the resort town, apologized to the two bank tellers who were on duty when they brandished unloaded BB guns and made off with $129,500. Though they tried to conceal their identities with ski masks, authorities figured out who they were by their distinct accents and the name tags they wore from the ski shop where they worked. In addition to the prison terms, the men were ordered to repay the bank $21,657.
