Amid slumping crowds, Rockies
close out season
The last-place Colorado Rockies close out their 2005 home schedule Sunday against San Francisco with “Fan Appreciation Day.” Their home attendance for the season ranks 14th in the National League and 26th in Major League Baseball, and for the first time in franchise history, the Rockies will fail to draw 2 million fans. This from a franchise that led the major leagues in attendance from 1993-99 and drew more than 3 million fans in each of its first nine years. 1BB

Elaine Enarson, a sociologist who has long studied natural disasters, focuses on the challenges faced by women in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. 1E
